Welcome!
Through hands on touch, Rolfing helps the body find a graceful alignment. I've always been drawn to graceful and mindful movement. An early seed of this learning came when my father passed on his signature dance move to me. His iconic move is a wave-like motion; a ripple that travels up one arm and then down the other. By itself, it can be quite graceful and delicate, though, we'd make funny sound effects to keep it playful. Into my 20s, my use of the move evolved. It became less of a joking clown-like wave and became increasingly introspective and subtle. I enjoyed dropping into my body, and experiencing soft waves and shifts ripple across, with or without music. Shortly after moving to Portland in 2019 as a young adult, I was introduced to Tai Chi, a practice which develops a very similar introspection. I was taken by Tai Chi's synergy with my past movement explorations, and I quickly became a diligent student of the art. I wanted to find a way to help others find the profound harmony in body & self that Tai Chi can give rise to. I also knew that before approaching those goals, people have to resolve past injuries and pains that can hold back such aspirations. I was introduced to Rolfing® several years into my Tai Chi practice, and I realized that Rolfing, a transformative modality of hands on therapy, could directly help someone find the same alignment, grace, and ease that Tai Chi works to establish. Rolfing uses hands on touch to shift the various tissues of the body into alignment. By re-organizing how the body holds itself and the way it balances on each joint, people can experience a profound sense of connection in themselves. During a Rolfing treatment series, far reaching effects of old injuries are addressed and many find that through this process chronic pains also resolve themselves. Resolving pain is an important milestone, though the keystone of Rolfing isn't placed when aches are lessened. There is a next step, and it is where continues a unique Rolfing journey: active uncovering & supporting of the systems of resilience within us. As a treatment paradigm, it can feel elusive at first, but it is this understanding, that our bodies hold health & resilience too (not just disease and pain), that makes Rolfing unique. In our culture, we often only acknowledge our body when it breaks, and when it does, we blame it and 'whakamole' our aches and pains. In silence, our bodies (organs, arteries, and all) do so much good for us. I believe successful Rolfing comes from deliberate collaboration with the hard working strengths of our body's systems. I believe that it is through this collaboration and compassionate touch that we can tap into our deep strengths and unfold into greater bounds of health. . . . Beit through Rolfing or otherwise, may our Portland communities find long lasting harmony in body and life. . . . FAQ: On weekends, each Sunday, I continue to practice Tai Chi; it is still a central piece in my life. With friends, we all gather and practice together in a Portland park.
